- Type Your Article: Start typing your 1000word article in the blank document. How to indent on google docs
- Highlight the Text: To indent specific paragraphs or lines select the text you want to indent.
- Indent Using the Ruler:
- If the ruler isnt visible at the top of your document go to “View” in the menu bar then select “Show ruler” to make it visible.
- On the ruler you will see a small blue rectangle. You can click and drag this rectangle to the right to create an indent. Typically a 0.5inch 1.27 cm indent for the first line of a paragraph is standard but you can adjust it according to your preference.
- To create a hanging indent common in bibliographies and references move the bottom triangle on the ruler to the right of the top triangle.
- Using the Indentation Options:
- Alternatively you can also use the toolbar options. If you dont see the ruler go to “Format” in the menu bar select “Paragraph styles” and then click “Normal text” to reveal additional formatting options.
- Click the “Increase indent” button a rightpointing arrow or “Decrease indent” button a leftpointing arrow to indent or unindent the selected text.
- Check the Formatting: Make sure the indent is applied correctly by visually inspecting the text or checking the ruler.
- Continue Writing: Continue typing your article and apply the same indentation style whenever needed.
- Save and Share: Save your document and share it if necessary.
